Overview

Stock Car brings the excitement of automobile racing to Gottlieb’s classic wedgehead pinball format. Released in January 1970, the machine features vintage racing-inspired artwork and traditional electromechanical construction. Its single-player design offers a straightforward, skill-based pinball experience characteristic of Gottlieb games from this era.

Unlike replay versions that award free games, Stock Car uses an add-a-ball format, allowing players to earn additional balls through successful play. This format was useful in locations where awarding replays was restricted. With two flippers and mechanical score reels, the game retains the simple, hands-on appeal of early 1970s pinball.

Designed by Ed Krynski and illustrated by Art Stenholm, Stock Car was produced in very limited numbers, with approximately 350 units reported. It is the add-a-ball counterpart to Gottlieb’s 1969 Road Race, sharing the automotive racing theme. Its rarity, wedgehead cabinet, and classic mechanical gameplay make it an appealing machine for collectors of vintage Gottlieb pinball
