Fast Draw (1975) is a 4-player electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine by Gottlieb, built around a Western shootout theme and fast-paced drop-target gameplay. Designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Gordon Morison, it’s widely regarded as one of the standout drop-target games of the 1970s. With over 8,000 units produced, it’s popular, accessible, and known for its high scoring potential and quick, unforgiving play.

Overview

Fast Draw is all about controlled shooting and maximizing drop-target scoring. The core objective is clearing the two 5-bank drop target sets to activate the high-value “horseshoe” targets, which score 5,000 points and reset repeatedly for continued scoring opportunities.

The absence of slingshots makes the game feel very different from most EMs—balls don’t get randomly kicked back into play, so control and nudging become critical. This also increases difficulty, especially on rebounds off drop targets.

ABC rollover lanes at the top build the bonus multiplier, while the saucers (kick-out holes) offer additional scoring and “special” opportunities. The game rewards precision and repeatable shooting more than chaotic play.

Overall, Fast Draw is a fast, punishing, and highly addictive EM that blends simple rules with high-skill execution—one of the best examples of Gottlieb’s drop-target design philosophy in the mid-70s.
